Future fuels for shipping
The shipping industry is on the move toward a more sustainable future. The pressure to reduce emissions is high, and one key question is: what will power the ships of tomorrow?
From electric propulsion and hydrogen to methanol, ammonia, and biofuels, the range of potential fuels is growing fast. But what are the pros and cons? Which technologies are closest to scaling up? And what does the road to zero-emission shipping look like?
Join us on Thursday, 8 May, at Buccaneer Delft for an insightful Energy Talks & Drinks as we discuss this topic from three perspectives in the sector.
Speakers
Christian Veldhuis – MARIN
- Christian is driving innovation in the maritime sector by bridging mechanical engineering, physics, and naval architecture. With advanced techniques like CFD, multidisciplinary optimization, and data-driven technologies, he is working on groundbreaking concepts to make zero-emission shipping a reality.
Sebastiaan Blueanus – Wärtsilä
- As general manager for Alternative Technologies & Competitive Intelligence, Sebastiaan is responsible for the evaluation of emerging technologies for power generation in Wärtsilä power supply RDE. He has overseen the creation and execution of multiple successful collaboration projects in the field. Originally an automotive engineer, Sebastiaan has racked up some 18 years of experience in the execution, management and planning of innovation projects. He has been with Wärtsilä since 2011.
Zepp.solutions
- Buccaneer scale-up Zepp.solutions specializes in hydrogen fuel cell systems, which are already powering a water taxi in Rotterdam and the Ab Initio training vessel. Looking ahead, their technology has potential for retrofitting existing river cruise ships. But what’s needed to accelerate the journey toward zero-emission vessels?
Let’s build the future of shipping together. Seats are limited, so don’t wait!
