Buccaneer Delft community member zepp.solutions is making progress in sustainable transport. Thanks to the Dutch SWiM grant, the company will produce 10 hydrogen-powered Europa trucks over the next three years. These new trucks will be realized in collaboration with five consortia, including key partners TEAL Mobility, Green Planet Pesse, and Fountain Fuel.
Hydrogen-Powered Europa Trucks
The Europa trucks, based on the robust Mercedes Actros diesel model, are designed to meet the demanding requirements of long-distance transport. With a range exceeding 700 km for 50-ton combinations, sleeper cabins, and compatibility with 45-ft ISO container trailers, these hydrogen-powered vehicles offer a sustainable alternative without compromising operational efficiency.
Tackling the Hydrogen Sector’s ‘Chicken and Egg’ Problem
The Dutch SWiM grant addresses a critical hurdle in hydrogen adoption: simultaneously developing hydrogen-powered vehicles and the infrastructure to support them. The program accelerates the transition to hydrogen in heavy transport by subsidizing both vehicles and refueling stations.
With €29 million allocated for 2024 and an increased ceiling of €40 million announced for 2025, the scheme empowers initiatives like zepp.solutions to drive impactful change.
Stephan Bredewold, Director at Fountain Fuel, highlights the importance of collaboration:
“Hydrogen will play an important role in the future of heavy transport, but to get there, developing supply and demand simultaneously is essential. With the support of the SWiM scheme, together we are accelerating the transition to a sustainable mobility system.”
A Significant Opportunity for Transporters
Transport and logistics companies aiming for sustainability are encouraged to explore hydrogen solutions with zepp.solutions.
Jonas Brendelberger, Co-Founder of zepp.solutions, states:
“The SWiM grant and our cooperation with strong partners like TEAL, Green Planet Pesse, and Fountain Fuel give transport companies the opportunity to seriously consider hydrogen. Each vehicle replaces a polluting diesel engine, avoiding hundreds of tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. We are ready to realise emission-free logistics together.”
At Buccaneer Delft, we’re proud to celebrate milestones like this, demonstrating innovation and collaboration’s power in driving the energy transition forward.
