Arctic Reflections is on a bold mission to restore Arctic sea ice and counter global warming. Despite optimistic carbon emissions reduction scenarios, the Arctic is projected to experience ice-free summers as early as the 2030s or 2040s. This alarming prospect accelerates the climate crisis since Arctic sea ice acts as the Earth’s refrigerator, reflecting the sun’s heat back into space with its natural white surface.
Arctic Reflections aims to preserve this critical heat shield by thickening the ice during winter. Their innovative approach involves pumping seawater onto the ice in strategically chosen locations across the Arctic Sea, helping to maintain its reflective properties.
