Curaçao’s Floating Wind Project: Room for Innovation

28 April 2025 |

A major leap for the Kingdom of the Netherlands: the launch of the H₂ Value Chain Program Curaçao.
This ambitious partnership between Curaçao and the Netherlands focuses on building a fully sustainable value chain based on offshore floating wind to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives.

At the heart of the program is an equal collaboration. Both Curaçao and the Netherlands aim to achieve mutual benefits, Curaçao by becoming a strategic green hydrogen hub for the Caribbean and Europe, and the Netherlands by strengthening its global leadership in offshore floating wind and scaling up its hydrogen economy.

Last week, government representatives, knowledge institute TNO, and business experts gathered to discuss research results and define next steps. Pre-competitive expertise came from the Dutch industry via NMT-IRO and NLHydrogen members. Under the guidance of Anne de Groot (NMT-IRO) and Stephanie Kool-Claessens (NLHydrogen), several crucial insights were delivered:

Using TNO’s Solution Space methodology, multiple development paths were mapped, supporting Curaçao and the Netherlands in making strategic and future-proof decisions.

The next step?

A showcase project that delivers a self-sufficient business case for the entire chain, from deepwater floating wind to green hydrogen production, ready for scaling.

At Buccaneer Delft, we’re proud to contribute to this innovative journey for the Kingdom. Our startups, eFuelution and Heerema Engineering Solutions, have played an important role in the early research, and we’re just getting started.
