This month a unique floating office opened its doors at the Green Village. Developed by Blue21 together with their partner OPPY International, it showcases a Bluelands floating platform with a modular building system. Could this be the game-changer for large-scale floating solutions?
Bluelands: Scalable construction on water
Bluelands by Blue21 is a lightweight floating platform designed for scalable and modular construction on water. From individual homes to floating neighborhoods, Bluelands facilitates diverse possibilities. The mission is clear: accelerate the development and production of adaptive floating systems to address the growing need for sustainable land.
In December Blue21 successfully constructed their prototype. The construction of the platform was completed within five days by just two workers, exemplifying the efficiency of the modular system. Measuring 7 by 5 meters, the small-scale floating platform showcases a lightweight superstructure, demonstrating the feasibility of mass-producing floating platforms.
The future of floating construction
Since joining Buccaneer Delft in 2021, Blue21 has been pioneering floating urban and maritime projects, harnessing the potential of water-based construction. Building on water opens up exciting new possibilities, from adapting to rising sea levels and flood resilience to expanding livable space with floating structures. With water covering 70% of the planet, Blue21 is tapping into a vast resource to address some of our most pressing climate challenges.
