Charlie is an innovator in energy systems for 15+ years. He always has been working with technologies that are on their way to major market growth and disruption in the power and heat sectors. Charlie Blair joined Gravitricity as Managing Director in 2016 and shortly thereafter secured £650,000 from Innovate UK to design and build their 250kW concept demonstrator. The idea for Gravitricity’s energy storage system was developed by company founder and Technical Director Peter Fraenkel MBE. He recognised the potential to develop a simple system – based on weights and winches – which could be deployed initially in mines and then wherever required, and in 2011 filed the first patent for Gravitricity technology.

He holds a strong track record in leading international field- and research-based consortium projects and supporting offshore exploration and new country entry projects for the oil & gas Industry. Willem moved to the renewable energy sector after identifying the need to support the offshore industry workings with compact, clean alternatives.
