Energy Talks&Drinks Christmas Special – Unlocked opportunities for the Dutch manufacturing industry: floating wind
17 December 2020 @ 17:30 - 19:00Free
Because the Netherlands has access to relatively shallow water and has a favourable wind climate with good access to ports and the energy grid, renewable energy through offshore wind is obvious. But that is not the case everywhere. For areas that shore deep water, floating wind farms is the solution. Even though it seems that floating wind turbines do not directly contribute to the Dutch focus on sustainable and renewable energy, it is an enormous growth market thus opportunity for the Dutch manufacturing industry given the knowledge and expertise we have here.
In a series of two events, together with Maritime Delta we will look into the latest technology developments in floating systems and the future perspectives, with a deep dive into floating solar and wind. On November 5, we already addressed the research developments and applications in floating solar (the recording can be found here). During the Energy Talks&Drinks Christmas Special, on December 17 floating wind will be the center of the topic.
Floating wind farms, what do they look like? Who and what does it take to realize them?
And how can floating wind farms become a growth market for the Netherlands?
Bob Meijer, Director at TKI Wind op Zee (moderator)
Sarah Marshall, Principal Engineer at Atkins
What market challenges has floating wind to overcome to become a growth market? What can we learn from our neighours overseas? With more then 15 years experience in offshore wind, Sarah will give a global outlook on floating wind in an opening conversation with Bob.
Ilmas Bayati, Project Manager at MARIN
Over the years many different floating offshore wind turbine designs have been initiated which all show their own characteristics. MARIN has a track record of more than a decade on various of these designs. Ilmas will share with us how MARIN offers services and advice on the hydrodynamic performance of floating wind turbines.
Clemens van der Nat, Manager Strategic Developments at Bluewater Energy Services
How to make floating wind a growth market from the perspective of the industry, what does the offshore energy market needs to unlock the full potential of floating wind? Clemens will share Bluewater’s vision on floating wind and the need from the industry.
Karel Roozen, Co-founder at Next Ocean
Maintaining floating wind parks brings new challenges. The further away from the coast, the more you have to deal with wave movements that make operations at sea less efficient. With their wave predictor solution they are part of the floating wind project of Ideol Offshore. Karel tells more about their involvement and added value for floating wind projects.
