The Dutch central government is dedicated to ensuring that 14% of all energy used in the Netherlands would be sustainable by 2020 and 16% by 2023. Wind energy is a key source of renewable energy for the Netherlands, which the country depends on it to achieve these goals.
How much wind energy will be generated? In 2015, offshore wind turbines generated 357 megawatts (MW) of electricity. At least 4,450 megawatts will be needed by 2023. This is set out in the Energy Agreement for Sustainable Growth. By 2023, offshore wind turbines will supply electricity to about 5 million households. This means that offshore wind farms will generate about 3.1% of the total energy used in the Netherlands. Join us to learn more about the latest insights in offshore wind technologies.
