Martin van Onna, CCO and Deputy CEO at Strohm
Martin van Onna holds a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from TU Delft and is member of the Advisory Board of the MCE Deepwater Development conference. Martin started Strohm, formerly Airborne Oil & Gas, in 2007. He developed the company from a business unit to independent and relocated firm, during which he moved to his current role of Chief Commercial Officer and, recently, Deputy CEO. During this time Martin developed and pioneered the disruptive Thermoplastic Composite Pipe technology, product development and introduction to the Oil & Gas and Renewables markets. Martin leads the sales, business development and marketing activities and is responsible for the growth of the company in the conventional business and market entry in the Renewables business. Prior to joining, Martin spent 8 years in the upstream business.
“During my time at Strohm I lived the life of pioneering new, disruptive technology and driving its adoption in a conservative market. Through this work I experienced the importance of a good market entry strategy, a client driven product development approach, a strong network and a relentless drive, for a startup company to succeed and grow. In addition, I am passionate about the Energy Transition and Renewables in general and am keen to share my experience with startups in this space. I therefore enjoy sharing my experience with start-ups at Buccaneer, helping new companies to succeed in this space.”

"The offshore energy industry has taught and brought me a lot on many fronts and for which I am very grateful, particularly to the various great mentors that I had the privilege of working with. Helping scale-ups via the Buccaneer is a great way to pass on my "business lessons learned" to the younger talents. After all, passionate entrepreneurs that start a new business are essential to our industry and they deserve all the mentorship they can get."
